One of the most important pieces of equipment that a DJ must have is a generator. It’s hardly used but when it’s needed, it will save the day at your wedding reception. I’ve been a DJ for 25 years, and done countless weddings and parties. Weddings require a lot of planning, financial and logistics in order to have successful wedding ceremony along with a memory filled reception. That will end in an unpleasant memory if there is no power at your reception, or at your outdoor wedding. I learned the hard way believe me!
Several years ago I was doing a 50th anniversary party here in Rome NY. Guests were flown in from the State of Michigan and a great amount of time and detail were put into this party. You guessed it, the power went out and so did the party. There were a lot of angry people to say the least, and I felt powerless. If only I had a generator this party would have been a successful party, not the total disaster that resulted that day. Needless to say I went out and purchased a generator. Since that day I have had to use it 5 times, due to power failures at weddings and private functions. Recently I was playing at a large Wedding Banquet Facility, when an accident in front of that facility resulted in several poles being down, one of which was a main power line. I was prepared, but the other two DJ’s were not so lucky. So with a lot of extension cords I was able to generate enough power for my wedding and two others as well. I was even asked to stay after to let the incoming entertainment use my generator.
The bottom line is that even after all of the planning that you do for your special occasion, it all go up in smoke without a generator when the need arises. Make sure that when you hire a DJ Professional, that they have a generator so that your day is a memorable one, in the event of not having electrical power for your special event. By the way the facility in Rome was the Polish Home, and yes they went out and purchased their own generator in the event of a total power outage. A wise investment on their part…
